We from Intellingua want to make efficient and advanced language learning available to everyone. Learning a foreign language is a great way to experience a new culture, expand your horizon and improve your general education level. However, most common language learning techniques are outdated. They rely on rote memorization of vocabulary and grammar which is not only boring, but also quite inefficient. Another approach among linguists is acquiring languages naturally through comprehensible input, completely without studying vocabulary and grammar. The idea here is that you typically know a lot of words in a text, but every now and then you will come across a new word you don't know. But because you understand the message of the text, you are able to infer the meaning of the new word through context. Intellingua automates and optimizes this learning process by tracking the user’s knowledge (like their vocabulary) and suggesting content (such as articles and videos) to them that is both slightly more advanced than their current language level and tailored towards their interests.
Info zum Team
Hey! We're team Intellingua. Who is "we"? Well, I'm glad you asked! We are three computer science students at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Germany, currently in our third semester on our way to the bachelors degree. But let's go through our members one by one, shall we? First of all, there's our creative genius Daniel, who provides us with many previously unthought of concepts and great design choices. The second person in our group is Tim, who does a great job at finding simple solutions to seemingly very complex problems. And then there is Jan. The man who commits faster than the rest of us can pull. He frequently finds and fixes bugs before the rest of us could even notice them. Overall our skillsets come together to allow us to form team Intellingua. We're very excited to see what the Imagine Cup 2019 has in store for us!
