Fluency

Fluency is a peer-to-peer language learning web application that connects students from around the world and matches two users who wish to become more fluent in each other's native languages, allowing them to video chat, message, and practice speaking with each other. A matching algorithm on the backend takes into account students' language proficiencies, gender/age preferences, time zones, and several other variables to ensure that matched users are comfortable practicing with each other. Customized conversation prompts and milestones then guide and encourage both users to not only practice the language they're learning, but also help each other and give them a glimpse into a different culture. Our platform serves as a supplement to traditional language-learning methods that emphasize writing and reading comprehension and enables users to get actual practice with fluent speakers, a component often overlooked in traditional language learning methods. We're dedicated to making language learning more accessible, uniting similarly-minded students, and fostering lasting connections founded on the motive to become a better speaker.
