Our team is a group of four Brazilian engineers—Fernando Kendy, Gustavo Mello, Gustavo Schewinski, and Yuri Achermann. We first met during internships in Germany, where we bonded over in a hackathon where our synergy led us to victory. This achievement reinforced our desire to continue working as a team on a solution using computer vision for an expensive problem for the manufacturing industry that we spotted during our work in the German Institute of Research.
- Fernando Kendy is a Control and Automation Engineering student at UFSC (Brazil), who is currently doing an exchange at TUM (Germany). Having as first experience a Scientific Initiation scholarship at UFSC, focused on Imitation Learning for Autonomous Driving, later on joined the Smart Production department at Fraunhofer IPT (Germany) in the Digital Transformation in Production position. Now is a working student at MTU Aero Engines, working in the shopping floor IT team, focused on data acquisition, data engineering, and IIoT.
- Gustavo Mello is a fifth-year Computer Engineering student at FACENS, with experience in startup competitions and Open Source projects. In 2020, he studied in Catalonia, Spain, on a scholarship. In 2021, he won the *Connecting Entrepreneurial Students Challenge* from Pomodo University in Indonesia with a marketplace project for pet shops and animal NGOs. In 2022, he represented Brazil at the *Youthpreneur in Action Challenge* in Cairo and interned at the Fraunhofer Institute in Germany, working with C#, Python, and React. He has been a member of the Google Developer Group (GDG) in Sorocaba and now mentors students in Brazil through the Wadhwani Foundation, supporting entrepreneurship projects. Currently, Gustavo is a Software Development Intern at Embraer, working on full-stack projects with React and Flask, and automations using Python in the quality sector. In his free time, he takes on freelance projects to keep growing his skills.
- Gustavo Schewinski is in his final year of a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering at the Federal University of Santa Catarina in Brazil, with a strong passion for creating impactful technological solutions. During his studies in Brazil, he participated in a program called PET, focusing on a research project in optimization and building partnerships to help the local academic community. In his fourth year, he began working as a student researcher at Fraunhofer IPT and RWTH Aachen in Germany, where he developed his thesis on process optimization using Bayesian optimization, alongside projects in machine learning and web development. In 2024, he joined the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in Germany as an exchange student in Informatics and is currently a working student at MTU Aero Engines, specializing in data engineering, data acquisition, and MLOps. Moreover, during weekends, Gustavo likes to explore indie projects in web development and AI, helping him stay up-to-date with new technologies.
- Yuri Achermann is a final-year Aerospace Engineering student at UFSC with a degree in Data Science. He has contributed to projects with NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts and MIT GeneSys, and has worked with Artefact data consulting and the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology (IPT). He has participated in startup incubation programs such as the Fraunhofer AHEAD Deeptech Accelerator, Microsoft for Startups Founders Hub in Munich, and the Collective Incubator and RWTH Innovation in Aachen. As a Microsoft Learning Student Ambassador Beta, he presented a Learn Live session on the Reactor channel about startup ideation using AI. An Intel Software Innovator and oneAPI Ambassador, he is also a three-time hackathon winner who builds FPV drones and enjoys flight simulators as a hobby.
