2020 Imagine Cup EMEA Online Semifinals

Every year, students create inspiring tech projects that tackle some of the world's biggest social, environmental, and health challenges. We’re looking for the next big thing and we know students like you are going to make it. Imagine Cup, Microsoft’s premier international competition for young developers, is your chance to show off your biggest, boldest solution.

EMEA Regional Finalists announcement

The winners of the EMEA Regional Semifinals will be announced on 15 January, 2020.

Regional Final Prizes

The teams that advance to the Regional Final will win a trip to the EMEA Regional Final event in Amsterdam, Netherlands and compete for the following:

  • The top two teams will win USD8,000 cash, Azure credits, a trip to Seattle, and a spot in the World Championship.
  • The three runner-up teams from each Regional Final win USD2,500 cash and Azure credits.

World Championship Prizing

The two top teams from the Regional Finals will advance to the World Championship in Seattle (date to be announced) and compete for the grand prize of USD100,000 cash, USD50,000 Azure credits, and a mentoring session with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.

Team Participation

You’re encouraged to submit an original application/solution that you and your team of up to three (3) have built (either on your own time, through your coursework, as a participant in a student hackathon, etc.). For your submission to qualify for the 2020 Imagine Cup, your application must utilize Microsoft Azure. For more details, see the Contest Rules.

Develop an innovative technical project that utilizes Microsoft Azure (See examples from last year's Imagine Cup)

Finalize and submit your team entry before 18:29:59 GMT+0 on Sunday, 15 December, 2019 for your chance to participate in the worldwide finals

1st place: EasyGlucose

University of California, United States

EasyGlucose is a cloud-powered, non-invasive, and cost-effective method of blood glucose monitoring for diabetic patients. A deep learning computer vision framework using convolutional neural networks developed with Azure Virtual Machines analyzes iris morphological variation in an eye image to predict a patient's blood glucose level.

2nd place: Caeli

Manav Rachna Institute of Research & Studies, India

Caeli is a smart automated anti-pollution and drug delivery mask specifically designed for asthmatic and chronic respiratory patients. It implements breakthrough features and Azure Machine Learning in a portable format to improve the quality of life for respiratory patients living in polluted areas.

3rd place: Team Finderr

University of Cambridge, United Kingdom

The team won the Azure Champ Challenge at OxfordHack, which inspired them to submit their project to Imagine Cup. They created an app solution which uses Cognitive Services and Virtual Machines to help make finding lost objects accessible to visually impaired individuals through their phones.
