Parkinson’s disease, or PD, is the leading cause of disability and affects more than 6 million people worldwide, but that number’s expected to double by 2040. Even worse, nearly 1 in 4 patients who have it are misdiagnosed, since there’s no definitive diagnostic test and subtle tremors are often overlooked by physicians. Cepha is an app that leverages smartphone sensors to provide users with fast, accurate, and accessible early-stage PD detection and late-stage PD management. Cepha uses Azure Custom Vision and Azure Machine Learning Services to detect PD with 98% sensitivity by analyzing voice and hand tremors, biomarkers prevalent in the onset of the disease. Through the use of Azure Machine Learning Services, patients can also build customized gait training sessions to improve postural stability and gait which worsens as PD progresses.
