Project Overview
Public shootings have become increasingly common over the past few years. In the United States alone, there are an average of 1.3 mass shootings per day. Over 250,000 people worldwide die every year as a result of shootings worldwide. 5 years ago, every mass shooting would be all over the news: Now, it's become something that happens every day. We thought that needed to change: no child should ever be afraid of going to school, unless they have a test they didn't study for.
Assurance is a proactive, effective, and affordable mass-shooting prevention system designed to work with existing security systems. It works by scanning the aggregate input from security camera feeds for firearms and alerts all parties it needs to alert as soon as a firearm is detected. The system is fully extensible and is able to run on low-cost hardware to make it accessible for everyone, regardless of their socio-economic background
About Team
We first met at a hackathon in eighth grade. As the only eight graders at a high-school hackathon, it was natural for us to pair up and work together, and after only a couple of hours, we realized how well they got along with each other. We continued to work on projects and compete in hackathons, even winning prizes at college level hackathons while still in high school. In 10th grade, we co-founded a non-profit(tfginc.org) to help people using technology, and the idea for Assurance was born soon after.
