At first, we pop up the idea that why don’t we build a farm in the city to let everyone have fresh vegetables everyday and no need to worry about that one day might facing the vegetables shortage and we need to buy expensive food from overseas. What came into our mind is, farmer need to farm and harvest the crops every day at field which is literally too tired for them. With technologies, we can develop a system that can transform traditional farming. After we decide to make the system, some research related to urban farming had been done. We faced obstacles to make our dream come true. A lot of capital is needed to rent the agricultural land as well as workflows to run a scaled farm. Fortunately, idea of hydroponic planting method appeared when we saw abandon shop lot as an opportunity to establish an urban farm within cities. With this, we can grow the crops in large scale with vertical farming.
First prototype was developed on August 2018, and experiment are carried to validate the functionality. After 2 months of system validation, we joined our first competition, UNIMAKER 2018. Many feedbacks and idea are collected. Out of 100 visitors, 60 are supported and like our idea. Unfortunately, we couldn’t make it into the final round. Reflection within team is carried to discuss on the weaknesses of SUFECS. Within a month, SUFECS V2 is developed with interactive, and responsive web application for monitoring, and controlling purposes. RISE 2018 is the second challenges that we took. With SUFECS V2, we are awarded with bronze medal in smart agriculture category. As a Microsoft Student Partner, we believe in Microsoft technologies. We see Imagine Cup as a great platform to gather innovative individuals globally, of which together, aim to transform the world with technologies. For us, Imagine Cup is a worldwide opportunity to profile SUFECS.
