We are NeuroGate - a unique mix of innovative Canadian University students with passions spanning from Software Engineering to Neuroscience. Our team consists of: Hrishikesh Suresh, a student currently enrolled in his second year of Medicine at McMaster University, Declan Goncalves, a second-year Software Engineering student from the University of Waterloo, and Zeqi Cui, a second-year Computer Engineering student from the University of Waterloo.
Our team was formed in October 2016, after meeting each other and forming a team at HackHarvard. During this time, we quickly developed a very efficient team dynamic, and due to both our individual skills as well as our cooperative abilities we were able to win the Microsoft prize at HackHarvard. Our winning project ArrowAI utilized the Leap Motion device and Microsoft Azure’s machine learning platform to diagnose Huntington’s disease for under $50.
After our success at HackHarvard, we decided to expand on the idea of ArrowAI by using the Microsoft Kinect sensor and targeting a larger range of neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s and Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. Thus NeuroGate was born.
Hrishikesh is the visionary who came up with the concept of NeuroGate. Not only is he pursuing a residency in neurosurgery, but he has grown up with a passion for coding, and as a result is also a major contributor to our product’s software development.
Declan is an outgoing student studying Software Engineering at the University of Waterloo, who has a passion for programming, experimenting with new technologies, and entrepreneurship. Declan is responsible for handling many of the operations within NeuroGate, as well as playing a large role in the product’s software development and user experience.
As a 2nd year Computer Engineering student at the University of Waterloo, Zeqi loves working with new and exciting hardware. He is very interested in pushing technology forward and developing his own technologies that can change the world. Zeqi is responsible for writing many of the core algorithms which handle and process the sensor data from the Microsoft Kinect.
Overall, we are a team of highly motivated students who not only want to revolutionize the health care industry, but truly believe that we have the aptitude to do so as well.
