Epilepsy is a disease that affects around 50 million people worldwide - 5% of which suffer from photosensitive epilepsy (PSE). In PSE, seizures are triggered by visual stimuli such as flashing lights. PSE is extremely common in children and adolescents, and the problem has been exacerbated during Covid since people are consuming more videos. Flikcer is a website and chrome extension where people can test for, and remove possible epileptic content from any video. Flikcer works in real time. Users can upload their own files or provide links to online videos. The algorithm outputs the number of possible triggers along with their time stamps. It also provides a safer version of the video to download, based on a threshold input from the user. Flikcer's algorithm is based on a peer-reviewed research paper (attached in this email) published by the professors at the University of Lisbon, Portugal. The algorithm has been programmed in Python. Using Django and Celery, it has been combined with the novel idea of a user-end product with the feature of creating a safe video. It has been integrated with the website and chrome extension available, freely, online for everyone to use.

Team Byte consists of Ashay Srivastava and Jaisal Kothari. Ashay handles the research and ideation spectrum while Jaisal works on the programming and development. Both members have been working on projects together for the past 4 years and have proven to be an efficient and innovative team, full of passion and enthusiasm.
